The old city centre is protected by a set of Pisan fortifications and it can be explored on foot easily. Important sights are the Bastione San Remy on the Piazza Costituzione, a great bastion which gives you access to the old city and from where you have a great view over the harbour, the 13th century Cathedral on Piazza Palazzo end a few old towers such as the Torre San Pancrazio and the Torre dell'Elefante which form part of the defensive structures of the city.
Outside of the old city centre the main sight is the San Saturnino Church. This is the oldest Christian church on the island dating all the way from the 5-th century. It's on the Via Dante.
