image by: http://www.dalmacijalink.comTourists are attracted by a visit to the Pakleni Islands; a small archipelago in front of the Hvar port, where one may enjoy the sun and the sea in one of the many solitary, wooded coves. Restaurants and taverns on the island offer excellent fish specialities, with exquisite local wines.
Accommodation facilities include hotels, guest houses, apartments, boarding houses and campsites. Sports and recreational opportunities are excellent - beach yoga, safari tours, tennis, climbing, hiking, basketball, boccia & water sports... and many more.
Outside the main port town, one will find an exquisit source of natural, unspoilt beauty and sleepy villages with lots of hidden treasures waiting to be discoverd.
One such place is the village of Dol, located 15 minutes by scooter/car from Hvar and only 5 minutes from Stari Grad, oldest & central port town on the island. Dol is home to suncokret retreat center for body & soul, as well as a painters' atelier with mystical summer courtyard - open to the public for t-shirt painting or simply a soothing glass of home-made mint tea. There is also Konoba Kokot, a quaint family restaurant which serves home-grown, organically produced local specialties in a friendly domestic environment at very reasonable prices.
From the suncokret center, visitors may trek along the footpaths which lead to various ruins and finally to Sv. Nikola, the pinnacle of the island. The hike involves a 3 hour pilgramage but the view of the azure Adriatic with its magnificent neighboring islands evokes a sense of wonder and oneness well worth the endeavor.
Hvar offers activities for singles, couples & families alike. It is an ideal location to visit all year round, but especially from April - November when temperatures are mild. If you like sun, sea, intact nature, beautiful architecture & discovering ancient culture still alive today, then Hvar Island is a must destination for your next holiday!
